'It's just 10:30. Another episode won't hurt.'
'Not today. I've to finish this task. I'll go to the gym tomorrow.'
'I am bored. There's still time. I'll work on the application tomorrow.'
Everyday, I fight this guy inside my head, telling me to delegate my work to future me. Its a constant struggle and surprisingly the guy in my head knows the perfect things to say to convince me. And every time I give in, I sabotage my plans - be it my work, my studies or my daily routine. Its remarkable how the urge to check the latest updates on Facebook, CNN, 9gag or Mangapanda correlates directly to the importance of the task at hand.
But it's just a matter of choice - of deciding what is more important to you, instant gratification of your desires or what matters in the long run. Yes there are times when you should reward yourself with an occasional intermittent period of inactivity, but it's time for you to strengthen that willpower muscle of yours when passivity becomes a habit.
Yes willpower is like a muscle that needs to be strengthened with exercise . And again it took Germans to develop a machine for that.( A detailed article by Businessweek : The Chocolate Machine That Can Improve Your Willpower )
But I hope that we all find that stick that will "motivate" you to stay on track and achieve your goals.( Germans inventions have a notorious record of being misused- Ecstasy was developed to combat abnormal bleeding not to give you kicks.)
So let me end today's post by this very apt introduction from Uncylcopedia's post : Let Someone Else Do It.
"Let Someone Else Do It tm is every intelligent person's philosophy of life. There are plenty of things that if we stop doing them for a long enough time, some other sucker with less patience and a greater sense of responsibility will do them instead. This is an established law of our social reality, and it is our obligation to uphold it."
